Samarjit Lankesh, the son of director Indrajit Lankesh and grandson of writer-filmmaker P Lankesh, is ready to make his debut in Kannada cinema with the movie Gowri. The film, in which Saanya Iyer is also making her Kannada debut, is set to be released on August 15. In an interview with Bangalore Times, Samarjit shares his passion for cinema, the challenges he encountered as a newcomer, and his collaboration with his father.

Inspired by actors like Puneeth Rajkumar and Sudeep, Samarjit was captivated by the allure of the film industry from a young age, sparking his interest in acting. He pursued his passion by studying various aspects of filmmaking at the New York Film Academy, where he gained insight into camera work, acting, and even made short films with friends. His involvement in theatre, assisting director Yogaraj Bhat, learning stunts from Chethan Dsouza, and dance from Murali master further honed his skills for his role in Gowri.

Transitioning from a child artist to a lead actor, Samarjit felt a stronger sense of responsibility, motivating him to approach his work with dedication and sincerity. His role in Gowri challenged him to delve into various layers of the character, requiring him to learn the Mandya Kannada dialect and master dance and stunt sequences.Samarjit describes how Gowri became the ideal platform for him to showcase his acting skills. Despite facing challenges as a newcomer, he felt a greater sense of responsibility as a lead actor.
